| CLLU1 IN Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia |
CLLU1 gene (CLL Upregulated gene 1) is the first disease specific gene identified in CLL.
The gene was mapped on chromosome 12q22.
Both pilot and larger independent studies have shown that CLLU1 overexpression was significantly associated with shorter overall survival and serves as strong prognostic indicator in patients younger than 70 years.
CLLU1 expression added further prognostic information within all prognostic subgroups, including FISH analyses, IgVH mutational status, CD38 and ZAP-70 expression, with the exception of unmutated IgVH.
Unlike CD38 and ZAP-70, CLLU1 is exclusively expressed in CLL cells, cell purification is therefore not needed to quantify CLLU1 expression.
